Otto Rohwedder started building his machine in 1912. It took him 13 years to get everything perfect. He finally sold his patent in 1928 and laid claim to the very first sliced bread machine.
A Bakery in Battle Creek, Michigan turned out the first loaf. The baker said that the bread would go stale faster than normal unsliced bread. Otto wasn't going to quit so he tried many different ways to keep the bread from going stale. He tried everything. He even tried hat pins!
Then he realized that wrapping it in plastic would be the best way. Later they discovered that the company could put there logo on the plastic. Finally bread was being sold presliced. This is how sliced bread started out.
